mutter minute – June 10

Who’s ready for the weekend? Here are a few things to read, see, go and do that caught our eye:

If you’re in Chicago, head to the south Loop tomorrow and Sunday for the Printer’s Row Lit Fest. We’ll be fan-girling over Bonnie Jo Campbell, Sara Paretsky and Marilynne Robinson, aIMG_0312mong others, plus a host of local authors including Joe Meno, Lori Rader Day and Abbi Geni. There’ll be cooking demonstrations, face painting and crafts for kids, live storytelling and a bunch of food trucks selling artisan tacos and microbrews. So fun! http://printersrowlitfest.org/

(Not in Chicago? Wander through your local bookstore, or listen to some live lit at themoth.org.)

Want to see Hamilton without paying $900? Tune in to the Tony Awards on Sunday, June 12 (tonyawards.com). Hamilton is up for a history-making 16 awards, including Best Musical, so there’s bound to be a number or two from the show. If you can’t wait for Sunday, check out James Corden’s latest Carpool Karaoke, Broadway edition: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YshgmStEZh0

Is a backyard hammock calling your name? Head outside with The Nest, the debut novel by Cynthia D’Aprix Sweeney. It’s the inaugural pick in our mutterReads books club not only because it’s a great story, but also because Sweeney could be our spirit sister. Read more about her journey to novelist in this New York magazine profile: http://www.vulture.com/2016/03/cynthia-daprix-sweeney-the-nest.html
